WHAT IS A RASH GUARD?
A rash guard, also known as a rashie or a rash vest, is a form-fitting swim top usually made of spandex/lycra. Traditionally popular amongst surfers, rash guards are worn by surfers to prevent board rash and chafing while surfing. Rash guards have however evolved, and now worn by those seeking sun protection and extra protection from the elements while outdoors and swimming.
SHOULD I WEAR A LONG SLEEVE RASH GUARD?
Yes! The more coverage the better! When it comes to rash guards, choosing a long sleeve rash guard will always give you more sun protection than a short sleeve rash guard.
DO RASH GUARDS MAKE YOU HOT?
The purpose of a rash guard is not to keep you warm or retain body heat, it is not a wetsuit. Rash guards are designed to protect you from the elements and give you a high level of sun protection. Depending on the material used, rash guards are breathable and are meant to be worn in the water. All our rash guards are made from high quality, sustainable Italian Lycra, which is the same fabric our swimwear is made of. The fabric we use is designed for swimming, it is versatile, hyper-resistant, thin, elegant, stretch, soft and breathable. It offers a unique mix of muscular compression and comfort. It is also twice as resistant to chlorine and suntan creams and oils than other fabrics.
WHY ARE RASH GUARDS SO TIGHT?
Rash guards should be a secure firm fit. Rash guards are meant to be a firm fit to stay in place and close to the body while you are in the water. Rash guards are worn to protect you from the elements and protect against chafing. However, rash guards should never be too tight or restrict movement. Rash guards should be a firm comfortable fit.
SHOULD I SIZE UP FOR A RASH GUARD?
If you do not want your rash guard to be a firm fit, then yes, we recommend going up a size in our rash guards if you want a relaxed swim shirt fit. That said, rash guards are designed to be a secure fit so they stay in place and close to the body while you are in the water.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A RASH GUARD AND A SWIM SHIRT?
Rash guards are designed to be a form-fitting top. A rash guard swim shirt is a top that gives you a more relaxed shirt style fit. If you want a more relaxed fit we recommend going up a size in our rash guards.
DO RASH GUARDS PREVENT SUNBURN?
Rash guards are designed to give you extra sun protection and protect you from the elements. Typically, rash guards are made from material that gives you a high level of UV protection. All our rash guards are made from sustainable Italian fabric which is UPF50+. We recommend also wearing sunscreen, particularly to areas of the body not covered.
