Bucket Hats! Before we designed our Bucket Hats, we decided that not only did they have to be stylish, they had to be practical and give more protection to your face than most other styles. When it comes to choosing the right hat to give you sun protection, there are a few things to consider. ARPANSA (Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency) is the Authority here in Australia and set the standards for sun protection.

Bucket Hats are considered one of only a few styles of hats that will give you good sun protection. ARPANSA say that an adult hat with a brim width of 7.5cm or more, is far better at shading your face than other styles. They also list the Bucket Hat as one of the preferred styles that give you the most protection. Our Bucket Hat is designed with a brim width of approximately 7.5cm, giving your face a good dose of shade. You’re welcome!

It is recommended that using the five sun protective measures SLIP, SLOP, SLAP, SEEK, SLIDE will ensure that you give yourself the best chance to avoid the harmful effects of the sun. For me, mainly using physical sun protective swimwear and/or clothing as a barrier to the sun’s harmful rays in combination with the other measures, is my 'go to' sun protection strategy.

Remember SLIP on a shirt, SLOP on some sunscreen, SLAP on a HAT, SEEK shade, SLIDE on some sunglasses.[1]
